In a shocking turn of events for the Web3 gaming community, development studio Uncharted has officially announced that both the studio and its flagship title, Fishing Frenzy, will completely shutdown and cease all operations.
Despite being one of the active titles on the Ronin Network, the team stated that they were ultimately unable to prove their core thesis on crypto gaming and could not find a sustainable product-market-business fit. Over the past year, multiple directions and target audiences were tested, but the final metrics did not provide enough conviction for a viable path forward.
For players who have spent months tracking leagues, managing guilds, and grinding for top leaderboards, the studio has outlined a comprehensive sunset timeline, refund policy, and asset redistribution plan.
The Sunset Timeline and Game Changes
The operational wind-down of the game begins immediately, leading up to the final server turn-off later this month.
- Server Shutdown: All game servers will officially shut down on June 25th at 2 AM UTC.
- In-Game Purchases: USDC packages have been completely removed and are no longer available for purchase.
- FISH Token Status: The native FISH token is now strictly spend-only within the game ecosystem and has been rendered completely untradable on external markets.
Karma Snapshot, USDC Redistribution, and Refunds
To ensure fairness to the dedicated community and long-term stakers, Uncharted is utilizing the ecosystem’s Karma scores to distribute remaining pool funds.
A final Karma snapshot was taken today, June 15th, and the scores have been completely open-sourced on GitHub (unchartedgg/karma-scores-snapshot) so other Web3 teams and partners can utilize the data for future ecosystem rewards.
Here is how players will be compensated:
- LP Pool Redistribution: All remaining USDC from the official FISH/USDC Liquidity Provider (LP) pool will be redistributed to stakers and community members proportionally based on their final Karma scores.
- USDC Purchase Refunds: All USDC spent by players since the launch of Chapter 3 (May 14th) will be fully refunded. Note: This refund strictly excludes any currency spent on diving activities.
- Proof of Distribution Rewards: All pending Proof of Distribution rewards will be handled and distributed directly to the community by Sky Mavis, allocated proportionally according to player Karma scores.
