You are already familiar with the basics of Web3 games thanks to our articles (“Web3 Games: Beyond Just Play-to-Earn” and “NFTs in Gaming: Avatars, Land, and Loot“). Now it’s time to move to practice and look at one of the most promising games on the Ronin network – Planet Horse.
This is not just pixel horse racing. Planet Horse is a deep, strategic Play-to-Earn (P2E) game where your goal is to become a top trainer by skillfully managing your stable, breeding, and participating in races. If you are looking for stable earnings in the Web3 world, this game offers a transparent economy supported by strategic token “sinks” and incentives for long-term play.
What is Planet Horse and Why Ronin Network?

Planet Horse is a pixel NFT horse racing game built on the Ronin Network blockchain. This is the same blockchain that powers giants like Axie Infinity and Pixels, which ensures low fees and high transaction speed, both critical for a game with frequent races and operations.
Instead of just “farming” tokens, as in old P2E models, here you train, breed, and upgrade your NFT horses to win competitions and dominate the leaderboards.
💰 Two Key Currencies
The game’s economy is built around two tokens:

$PHORSE (Utility Token): The main token used for horse leveling up, breeding, item trading, and paying for treatment. You earn it for prize places in races. The total token supply is strictly limited to 300 million.

$MEDAL (Evolution Resource): An in-game resource that can be earned by taking 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place in races (3, 2, and 1 Medals, respectively). Medals are necessary for leveling up (along with $PHORSE) and future evolution mechanics.

How to Start Earning: My Stable and Strategy 📈
As a content creator and experienced player (I currently have 6 horses), I can show you how an initial strategy is formed.

My current stable includes three Common horses (one at level 15, two at level 11), two Uncommon horses (both at their max level of 15), and one Rare horse, which is currently at level 15 but has the potential to reach level 20. Your primary goal is to level up your horses to maximize their stats (Power, Sprint, Speed) and daily earning potential.
The Core Earning Cycle (Game Loop)
- Racing: Your horse participates in races, consuming 12 energy per race.
- Receiving Rewards: For winning, you get $PHORSE (up to 150 base value for 1st place) and $MEDAL (up to 3 for 1st place). The higher your stats, the higher the Reward Multiplier, and thus your earnings.
- Recovery: When energy runs out (the horse enters the Sleeping status), you wait for natural recovery (4 to 7 races per day, depending on the level) or use Hay consumables.
- Leveling Up: You spend the earned $PHORSE and $MEDAL to increase the horse’s stats and maximum energy.
💡 Tip for Beginners: Start with Common or Uncommon horses. Since my Common and Uncommon horses are already maxed out at level 15, I can now focus on leveling my Rare horse to its potential maximum of level 20, preparing it for the highly competitive Horse Derby (for horses level 15+). Horse Statistics and Growth
Your horse’s potential directly depends on its rarity:
- Common: Starting stats 1-3, maximum level 15.
- Uncommon: Starting stats 2-4, maximum level 15.
- Rare: Starting stats 3-6, maximum level 20.
- Epic: Starting stats 4-8, maximum level 20.
- Legendary: Starting stats 5-10, maximum level 25.
- Mythic: Starting stats 6-12, maximum level 30.

Horses of higher rarity have greater GROWTH POTENTIAL (hidden trait), which means that they receive more stat bonuses with each level up. This is clearly visible in the comparison: an Epic horse at level 3 can have stats of Power 32, Sprint 30, Speed 32, while a Common horse of the same level will have Power 9, Sprint 10, Speed 9.
The Life Cycle of a Horse: Racing and Recovery
Each race consumes 12 energy. Horses recover energy over time, which limits the number of daily races (4 to 7 races per day, depending on the level).

- Idle: Energy ≥12. The horse is ready to race.
- Sleeping: Energy <12. The horse is recovering. You can speed up the process by using Hay (restores 4 energy) or Big Hay Bale (restores 12 energy).
- Bruised: After several races in a row, there is a chance of injury. An injured horse cannot recover energy and must be healed for $PHORSE (cost depends on level and rarity).
Strategic Depth: Breeding, Gear, and Stables
Planet Horse avoids inflation through a well-thought-out system that encourages the spending (burning) of tokens and NFTs.
Breeding and Genetics 🧬
Breeding is the key to creating more powerful horses, but it requires significant investment and is the main “sink” for $PHORSE and $RON.

- Cost: Depends on rarity, parents’ breeding history, and is dynamically tied to the $PHORSE price in USD. The cost increases with each new breeding attempt, which controls the population.
- Foal Rarity: Determined by the lowest rarity among the parents (e.g., Rare + Legendary = Rare according to the table). This adds an element of risk but also opportunities for strategy.
- Gene Splicing: You can burn an unneeded NFT horse (level 10+) and receive Genes (Power, Sprint, or Speed Genes) and Level Up Tickets. These Genes can be used during breeding to significantly improve the foal’s base stats (adding +6 to a base stat). This incentivizes the burning of weaker horses, protecting the value of the NFT.

NFT Stables — For Serious Earning

Stables (Mint Price: 250 RON, Total Supply: 400) are a premium asset with huge potential for passive income and efficiency:
- Energy Increase: Horses in a Stable receive additional energy recovery (+1 to +7 every 8 hours, depending on the stable level). This allows for more frequent racing.
- Race All: An exclusive feature for Stable owners/renters, allowing them to send the entire herd to races at once, saving time.
- Breeding: Only horses placed in Stables can participate in breeding.
- Passive Income: Owners can rent out Stable slots and receive a percentage of the Artificer (Bruno-Master) fees for item upgrades.
Item Upgrading (Artificer System)
Champion Collection items (Champion Bridle, Saddle Pad, Stirrups), which you get from chests or races, can be upgraded using $PHORSE and Medals.
- Upgrading provides a significant stat increase (+3 to the main stat) and can reach +69 in stats at the maximum level of +15.
- Note: Starting from level +4, there is a risk of the upgrade failing, and from level +5, the item can be destroyed. This is another powerful token burning mechanism.

Horse Derby: The Future of Competitive Earnings
As the game progresses, simple rewards for races become less significant, and the focus shifts to the competitive Horse Derby mode — the premier league for earning money.
Horse Derby is a competition for horses of level 15 and above.
Dual income model
- Prize pool: Horse owners pay a registration fee to $PHORSE, which goes towards forming a monthly prize pool. $RON and $PHORSE are distributed among the top participants with the highest MMR (Matchmaking Rating).
- Betting revenue: Players can bet on the horses they think will win. A portion of the betting revenue is shared with the owners of the horses that were bet on. Thus, successful trainers earn not only from their victories, but also from the popularity of their horses in the community.

This mode encourages investment in horse training and equipment, and also supports long-term player engagement.
Plans for the Future: Planet Horse Beyond
The developers are not stopping at racing. The future roadmap includes expanding the game with Land Ownership and creating an interactive game world:

- Land Ownership: Players will be able to purchase and develop virtual plots for training, breeding, and social interaction.
- Town Hub: Introduction of an interactive town hub with separate areas such as a stable, market, and racetrack, transforming the game into a living, breathing world.
- UX Improvements: An updated interface is being introduced for seamless asset management, statistics comparison, and energy monitoring, which is critical as the game’s functionality grows.
